Overview

Despite Chittagong the lands of earliest Hindus but much later the entire country is reputed in thriving the status of outstanding Buddhist monastic learning of philosophy, art, sculpture, architecture, meditation, worship and specially the center of Mahayana Buddhism.

The Pandit Vihara and University boasts a particularly high concentration of them during the 10th – 12th Century AD. The ruins Buddhist site is located at Anowara near the city of Chaityabhumi or Chittagong in the time frame of the 6th-12th Century. The Pandit Vihara was ornamented with different books of different divisions of Buddhism & accommodation cells were made for the monks.

Most of the Buddhist Mystics songs ( Charyagiti) which were the main source of Bengali language were written by 84 Siddhacharyas residing in this Pandit Vihara University. Distinguished Scholars opined that Pandit Vihar flourished with the prime source of Bengali Language ( Buddhist Mystics Songs & Charayapada) which written in this Pandit Vihara during the 8th -12th Century AD..

Many of the religions chiefs of Tibet were the inhabitants in Patiya of Chittagong. The vihara lost its status and existence due to the practice of Tantric Buddhism and destroyed by the attack of Mughal in favor of the Hindus.
