Day trip to the Brass artisans and Pottery village

Bangladesh once superb quality pottery and Brass artisans was globally famous and had a rich cultural history as the center of fine muslin of Sonargaon and fine craftsmanship of Dhamrai. We have found the evidence of the finest arts of artisan after excavation various archaeological sites of the country that Fine terracotta arts were popularized during the rule of Pala, Sena, Muslim Sultanate, Mughal and up to Zamindar period who were utilize to make the terracotta, figurines, statues of goddesses, domestic utensils, and other aesthetical items for them.

At present the metal casting and pottery industry is at the edge of extinction. The remaining artisans of Dhamrai are the generation of those who were once the soul of Dhamrai and the fine craftsmen of ancient Bengal are still artisans left to continue the age-old professions of creation.

Dhamrai is the city of cultures not only for its beautiful artistry like terracotta work, pottery and metal casting but it is also a center of celebrations in a festival mood. The whole year is engaged with fairs, festivals, Roth Jatra etc. keeping the artisans busy and the Hindu society delighted.

Dhamrai is also well known for the annual Rath Jatra festival begins on around the 10 day of Bangla Calendar month of Ashar and “Ulto Rath” takes place one week after. The Rath cart is approximately 45 feet high, likely a Roman chariot can be sighted in the tour.

• Depart Dhaka at around 08:00 AM from your hotel on a private vehicle about to Dhamrai (40km) for visiting the remaining famous Brass artisan workshop are the generation of those who were once the soul of Dhamrai were are still artisans left to continue their produced handmade Brass artifacts, using the 2,000 years old lost wax casting method.
• A boat takes you to explore the pottery villages of Dhamrai trace back to 300 years old. The potters of the area have always been appointed as the chief artisans to make not only Hindu idols for different celebrations also potteries made of clay.
• A large Rath likely to be a Roman chariot can be sighted in Dhamrai in the month of 8th July.
• Few km drive to well worth visiting to a grandeur Baliati palaces is the Greek style famous colonial era archaeological sites which locally known Zamindar palaces of the 19th Century built by a rich salt merchant and landlord.
• Taste lunch at a local restaurant and after, visit National Memorial (Martyrs Monuments) at Savar.
• Late in the afternoon, driving back to Dhaka and dropping by your hotel.
