Bangladesh cum Bengal superb quality pottery and Brass artisans was globally famous and had a rich cultural history as the center of fine muslin of Sonargaon and fine craftsmanship of Dhamrai. We have found the evidence of the finest arts of artisan after excavation various archaeological sites of the country that Fine terracotta arts were popularized during the rule of Pala, Sena, Muslim Sultanate, Mughal and up to Zamindar period who were utilize to make the terracotta, figurines, statues of goddesses, domestic utensils, and other aesthetical items for them.
At present the metal casting and pottery industry is at the edge of extinction. The remaining artisans of Dhamrai are the generation of those who were once the soul of Dhamrai and the fine craftsmen of ancient Bengal are still artisans left to continue the age-old professions of creation.
Dhamrai is the city of cultures not only for its beautiful artistry like terracotta work, pottery and metal casting but it is also a center of celebrations in a festival mood. The whole year is engaged with fairs, festivals, Roth Jatra etc. keeping the artisans busy and the Hindu society delighted.
Dhamrai is also well known for the annual Rath Jatra festival begins on around the 10 day of Bangla Calendar month of Ashar and “Ulto Rath” takes place one week after. The Rath cart is approximately 45 feet high, likely a Roman chariot can be sighted in the tour.
